Course Expectations 2013-2014

¡Bienvenidos a la clase de español dos honores!
This year we will be focusing on improving your Spanish skills through reading, writing, speaking and listening!  The class will be taught in the target language and students will be asked to participate and ask questions as well in the target language.  It is essential that students be willing to prepare daily homework assignments and look over Spanish materials on a nightly basis.  Also we ask that if a student feels they do not understand a particular concept that they take it upon themselves to come for extra help and clarification.  We look forward to a year of Spanish language and cultural exploration.

Performance Based Grading:
This year I will be using a performance based grading system. Under this system of assessment students will be evaluated on a daily basis in the categories of reading, writing, speaking, and listening.  Instead of students being graded on ‘participation,’ activities in class will fall into one of the four categories.  Each of the above mentioned categories will represent 25% of students’ grades, with assignments of varying weights in each representing traditional ‘homework’, ‘quiz’, ‘test’, and ‘project’ grades.

The grade will be derived on a points system within the following parameters:
Assignments done at home: 10 -20 points
In class assignments: 10-30 points
Quizzes: 30 + points
Tests: 75+ points
Projects: 50 + points

Other key grading information:
*No late homework will be accepted.  If a student is absent the homework is due the day the student returns to school.
*Projects will carry a weight of at least 50 points and up to 100 points depending on the size and difficulty of the assignments.
**Late projects will be accepted for 5 days following the due date with 10 points taken off for every school day late.  If a student is absent, the project is due the day the student returns to school.
****The use of google translate on any assignment will result in loss of credit for the assignment.

Classroom Expectations
      Respect yourself and others.
      Use school-appropriate language.
      Arrive on time.
Come prepared with your binder, and homework.
No cell phones or i pods*.  They must be turned off and out of sight when in the classroom.
Failure to comply with the classroom expectations may result in a teacher or office detention.

Supplies:

Each unit is centered on a packet that contains all the notes and assignments for the unit.  A 3-ring binder is the best system for keeping track of these packets and any additional handouts you may receive.  Also, please buy a Spanish-English dictionary.
